BIOLOGICAL TARGET

Action of Extract: acetone–water extract of Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn. can protect and/or stimulate the proliferation of hematopoietic stem cells[1]
Action on cell cycle:
NN-B-4 identified from N. nucifera ethanolic extracts significantly arrested the cell cycle progression of activated human peripheral blood mononuclear cells from the G1 transition to the S phase.[2]
Target: Nucleic Acid
acetone–water extract of Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn. pre-treatment protected against radiation-induced DNA single strandbreaks and chromosomal aberrations in mice[1]
proteins:
acetone–water extract of Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn. pre-treatment reversed radiation-induced alteration in the levels of superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase in mice liver[1]
Lipids:
acetone–water extract of Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn. pre-treatment reduced radiation-induced lipid peroxidation in mice liver[1]
sugars:
Mechanism: ethanolic seed extract showed DPPH radical scavenging activity[3]
hydro alcoholic extract of Nelumbo nucifera seeds scavenged DPPH radical in vitro[4]
Nelumbo nucifera extract is suffested to protect mice against radiation by elevating endogenous antioxidant enzymes levels and reducing lipid peroxidation formation.[1]
